Mega-Giving
to Charities and Non-Profits
Groeneman Research & Consulting will be
managing the data compilation and annual reporting in the
ongoing “Mega-Gifts” project conducted by the IJCR
(www.jewishresearch.org). Mega-Gifts
represents an effort to catalogue and analyze all
gifts and grants of $1 million or more to 501(c)(3)
organizations from all sources - individuals,
bequests, independent and community foundations,
corporations and corporate foundations, and commercial
donor-advised funds. The main objectives of this
research are to document patterns of giving by
recipient category (education, health/medical,
religion, human services, arts, etc.), examine trends
over time in large contributions, document and compare
patterns of Jewish and other mega-giving, and in
general, to enrich scholarship in the field of
philanthropy. Mega-Gifts is not a survey project;
instead, it entails a comprehensive and systematic
search of general and specialized periodicals, web
sites, and existing lists and archives to identify as
many $1M+ gifts/grants that can be found, which
provide the database for the analysis.
